Temporization

Which Material to Choose

When it comes to temporization the material choice is more of the timing.  How long do you want it to last?  Ragle offers three materials.  Long-term, medium, and short term.

RCAD TEMP PMMA

This is a milled PMMA.  The material is multi-layered and very esthetically pleasing.  PMMA was the go-to for temps until print resins came onto the market.  It is still the most tried and true temp material used. $160 unit

RCAD TEMP IPN

IPN is a print resin used for digital dentures but can also be used as a temp material.  Looks great but it is not a long-term solution.  Works fine for diagnostic try-ins and short term temporiztion.  $135

RCAD TEMP SCULPTURE/TITAN

These are nano-filled resins.  Although not considered a long-term solution we have had some in the mouth for 6 months +.  The Titan resin is stronger than the Sculpture but both work well and look nice. $125

Manufacturer Claims:

Sculpture-

Optimized for permanent single-unit restorations,  Sculpture 2.0 delivers the strength, esthetics, and reliability clinicians expect in a permanent restorative material. Recognized with the 2024 Cellerant Best of Class Technology Award, it sets a new quality benchmark for 3D-printed crowns and bridges, combining long-term durability with the efficiency of digital workflows.

This performance is driven by an industry-first 60% Zirconia-infused ceramic filler, providing unmatched biaxial flexural strength exceeding 200 MPa. These properties translate into superior wear resistance, exceptional fracture toughness, and a level of clinical reliability that rivals traditional ceramics while maintaining the precision and speed of additive manufacturing.

Titan-

Optimized for full-arch provisionals, hybrid dentures, and denture teeth, Titan balances durability and fracture resistance to meet the demanding requirements of long-span restorations. Retaining the ceramic nanohybrid qualities of its predecessor, Titan incorporates a modified flexural modulus engineered for increased impact resistance, allowing it to absorb functional stress without compromising strength, stability, or esthetics.

This unique formulation ensures consistent performance across a wide range of full-arch applications, including split-file denture designs, full monolithic dentures, and immediate screw-retained hybrids. With natural translucency, superior radiopacity, and lifelike shade options, Titan delivers durable yet esthetic restorations that integrate seamlessly into digital workflows.

About Us

There is always something to learn...  now in my 50th year as a lab tech the landscape continues to change.  With that comes efficiencies in most cases, but not without a cost and sometimes quite the learning curve.  The idea behind RDLtechnews.online is to share experiences, new products as well as old, along with a few technical tips that we, as a lab, have come across.  If you have a question, never hesitate to ask.  If we don't have the answer, someone does!!
